FROM ME TO YOU
A film by Naoto Kumazawa
Based on Karuho Shiina’s award-winning manga series Kimi Ni Todoke, FROM ME TO YOU is a sweetly envisioned tale of teen friendship and unrequited love.
The film begins with Sawako (Mikako Tabe), a happy, smiling young girl who one day is mistaken for the RINGU character Sadako, because of her long hair. Fearing the possibility she will put a curse on them, Sawako is ostracized by her schoolmates and soon becomes the polar opposite of the cheerful girl she once was, turning into the morose outcast of the school classroom.
Then one day in high school, two things start to bring her out of her self-imposed shell: popular boy Kazahaya (Haruma Miura) treats her nicely, and offbeat girls Yano (Natsuna) and Yoshida (Misako Renbutsu) become her best friends.
In a world of films where teens are stupid, loud, stereotyped, over-sexed and violent, FROM ME TO YOU is a breath of fresh air with its gentle reminder of the potential for kindness, courage and friendship as the best parts of youth.
